MACCLESFIELD Town have sacked manager Brian Horton after a poor start to the season left them stranded at the bottom of the Football League.

Horton, who has been at the helm since April 2004, was given the boot after Saturday's defeat against Hereford, which saw them remain seven points adrift at the foot of League Two, without a win in 12 matches.

A club statement read: "Brian Horton has been relieved of his duties following a poor run of results.

"We'd like to put on record our thanks to him for his efforts and commitment during his two-and-half years here."
