Macclesfield Town boss Gary Simpson has committed to the club, extending his contract until summer 2013.

The Silkmen manager agreed the one-year extension and set out his agenda to build a competitive future for the club and ensure a firm standing in the coming years.

Simpson had been contracted until the end of the 2011/12 campaign but agreed to prolong his tenure at the club that he’s led with great dignity through some emotionally torrid times.

"We’ve been through a hell of a lot in the last few years," he said.

"And it’s unprecedented that any club has had to deal with what we have and there’s a fantastic bond between a wonderful group of people who have been good to me.

"It’s not just a job. It’s a difficult job, I’m not going to deny that, but it’s a job that I enjoy.

"If I’m asking players to commit their futures to this club then it would be a bit hypocritical of me not to do the same.

"At the end of the day it’s me that’s showing my faith in the players and showing that we’re on the same wavelength here.

"I’ve tried to show loyalty to those who’ve been through what we have here and keep together the squad, as much as possible."

Simpson is in the process of preparing for another campaign in League Two after steering the Silkmen to their best finish in six years, and has secured the services of midfielder Matty Hamshaw for a further 12 months.

He added: "Obviously I’ve spoken to a few lads and Hammy is a talent, I’d just like him to get a few more games under his belt this season.

"He only played 20 or 30 games for us last year and if his conditioning is good he’ll have a part to play.

"He likes it here, he wanted to stay and we rate him highly.

"Some players may have illusions of moving on elsewhere and if they do decide to leave us and be treated as well as they are here then good luck to them."

And Simpson is still waiting on decisions on contract offers on several players, but insists that, should they depart, there will be others waiting to come in.

"My phone hasn’t stopped ringing with agent after agent getting on to me," he admitted. "We’ve gone as far as we can with the contract offers at the minute.

"I’d like these lads with offers to stay but if players get a better offer and it’s the right move for them and their families then so be it. All I ask is that they go and allow me to use what money would have been there to bring other people in.

"I’ve got a number of other targets and, as much as it’s a players’ market, there are that many that will be out of work, it’s also going to be a buyers’ market.

"Some might hang on and not get fixed up. If that happens and they come into our price range then we might have a few good deals to be done."
