STOCKPORT boss Jim Gannon admits his side were lucky to be on level terms at half-time after the Hatters survived a Macclesfield blitz.

“Credit to Macclesfield, they played really well,” Gannon said after his side’s clinical finishing earned them the three points.

“They stretched us, they made our back four drop deep, and we just couldn’t contain them. We were fortunate to come in at half-time with a clean sheet.”

Ian Brightwell said after the game: “I thought we played really well, especially in the first half, and did more than enough to win the game.

“I am disappointed with our finishing, but, that said, their keeper made a couple of outstanding saves.

“We made chances, got the ball into their box but there was no end product and that’s what cost us.

“I’m bitterly disappointed we haven’t got anything out of the game.”
