LAST season’s Sunday Cup winners Alderley Royal Oak, now back to their original name Drum and Monkey, had a scare as they were taken to extra time against Higher Poynton.

Two down at half-time, Drum fought back in the second to level at 2-2 and, in extra-time their superior fitness told and they scored three times to ease into Round two 5-3. Scott McGowan grabbed a hat-trick and was joined on the score sheet by Duncan Warrinder and Joe Ingham.

Brewers were glad to see Jake McGarry back on form as his hat-trick helped them to a 4-2 victory at Westlands.

Jordan Hitchin added a fourth. A goal in each half including a second-half penalty from Andy Mashiter and the opening goal of the tie just weren’t enough on the day for a disappointed Westlands side.
