Club AZ avenged their heavy defeat to Mary Dendy earlier in the season by outclassing an injury-hit Dendy side at Mulberry Sports Centre.

Dendy couldn’t cope with AZ’s neat passing game and went behind early to Jason Blythe’s glancing header from Jimmy Baskerville’s free-kick.

On the half hour Gareth Gibbons doubled AZ’s lead as he sent a superb curling shot past keeper Rob Tilley from the edge of the penalty area. Such was the home side’s dominance it wasn’t until five minutes before the break that their new signing, keeper Harry Shatwell, was called into action to make a save.

Dendy lost the game within 15 minutes of the second half as inexplicable errors allowed Jimmy Baskerville to score twice directly from corners without anyone getting near the ball.

Will Beighton made it 5-0 midway through the second half with a goal that epitomised Club AZ’s play. John Whitehead broke up play in midfield and powered forward, releasing Paul Bethal down the wing. His pinpoint cross found Beighton completely unmarked four yards out and he sidefooted home. Dendy did find the net themselves with a minute remaining but it was always going to be AZ’s afternoon.

Juno United remain unbeaten in February after an excellent 7-2 win at Inter Macc.

In an entertaining game Jermaine Leveridge gave Inter the lead on 20 minutes, breaking a tackle and finishing from just inside the penalty area, but two quick goals from Sam Woodward and Steve Jenkins gave Juno a slender lead.

Jake McGarry’s extraordinary free-kick from an acute angle near the touchline tied the game at 2-2 but there were more goals to follow as Darren Wilson fired home to make it 3-2 to the visitors at half-time.

Intuitive finishing and some inexperienced goalkeeping led to Juno adding four more goals in the second half but it was by no means one-way traffic. Inter showed plenty of endeavour but were consistently let down by the final ball. Wilson completed his hat-trick, Jenkins grabbed his second with a lob from fully 30 yards and Mark Hughes made it seven.

Wilmslow Sports bounced back from last week’s defeat to take three points in a 5-1 win at Old Alts A. Having led 1-0 at half-time the visitors took full advantage as Alts tired, with Chris Nevin (2), Steve Dootson and Tom Hunt on target. Alts’ Guy Marshall scored his first of the season to nab a late consolation for Alts.

There was a fantastic result for High Lane as they recorded their fifth win of the season, 4-1 over this season’s under-achievers Poynton Nomads, who began the season as one of the title favourites. Jake Getcheffsky gave High Lane a dream start, taking advantage of a goalkeeping error after five minutes and then doubled their lead with his second minutes later.

George Mitchell made it 3-0 but a spectacular bicycle kick from Tom Gaskell reduced the arrears as Nomads trailed 3-1 at the break. High Lane made it four in the second half when man-of-the-match Dave Wilde converted a penalty after Luke Campbell was felled in the box.

Inter-League Cup holders Boarhound eased into the next round after comfortably disposing of Lostock Reserves 3-0.

Forced to play for the second weekend in a row, player-manager Maurice Sutton opened the scoring himself and Jamie Collins added a second before half-time. Collins secured the win with Boarhound’s third in the second half.

Poynton produced an excellent rearguard display to dump rivals Kings out of the competition with a first-half goal from Dan Moult.

Under the cosh for much of the game the visitors defended resolutely and managed to hang on to their slender advantage to run out 1-0 victors.

Kieron Joyce’s goal for Old Alts Youth wasn’t enough, they lost 4-1 to Malpas.
