MACCLESFIELD central defender Danny Swailes has been voted the club's A-Line star performer for February.

Polling around a third of the votes, Swailes, an ever-present during the month's four games, beat off competition from Kevin McIntyre, Jordan Hadfield and Alan Navarro to win the award.

February also saw Swailes, who takes over the club's captaincy in the absence of Dave Morley, sign a new contract that keeps him at the Moss Rose until summer 2009.

Swailes has made more than 100 appearances for the Silkmen since signing for a fee of £40,000 in January 2005.

Morley signed at the same time and the pair have since formed a formidable defensive partnership.

His performances have earned praise from Paul Ince, who termed the 6ft 3in stopper a "colossus" after his excellent outing in the win over Grimsby Town.

The former Bury trainee will be presented with his award before the Wrexham fixture on April 7.
