MARTIN Carruthers has said he aims to enjoy his quick reunion with his former team-mates by scoring his first goal for new club Boston United on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to www.macclesfield-express.co.uk the former Macc striker said he can't wait to pit his wits against his old training partners in a game which could also mark Paul Gascoigne's debut for the Pilgrims.

He said: "As soon as the fixtures were released at the start of the season, I rushed straight to see when we would be playing Macclesfield.

"It's going to be nice to see everyone again, but I'll definitely be going after a goal.

"The fans here at Boston have been great since I came in, and there's a chance Gazza will play, so there should be a really good atmosphere - he (Gazza) should add a couple of thousand on the gate.

"I've always had a knack of scoring against my old clubs, and I did it a lot when I used to play for Scunthorpe. But that's the law isn't it? You have to score against your old club!"

Carruthers was almost ever-present last season, scoring 10 times for the Silkmen. He was made surplus to requirements by Macc boss Brian Horton after falling behind Jon Parkin, Matt Tipton, Jon Miles and Mike Sheron in the pecking order at Moss Rose.
