MORECAMBE host Macc on Boxing Day looking to improve on a record that includes just four wins in the league.

Sammy McIlroy’s men are also one of the lowest scorers as only Grimsby have hit fewer than their average of one per game over the 21 played in League Two.

On-loan Peterborough striker Rene Howe, who averaged a goal every two games for Rochdale last season, is their top scorer, with six so far.

The Shrimps have struggled in their second season after ending the last campaign in 11th.

The corresponding fixture last season ended in victory for Macc, Franny Green hitting the only goal at Christie Park.

However, Sammy Mac’s return to the Moss Rose resulted in a win for his side.

Two days later, Macc host neighbours Chester City, who escaped relegation on the final day of last season.

A dreadful start to this campaign led to manager Simon Davies’ exit last month, and he was replaced by former England defender Mark Wright, in his third spell in charge at the Deva Stadium.

Davies has since returned to the club as youth team manager.

Although they have only lost one of their last four games, Wright hasn’t completely stopped the rot, and his side are currently in 18th place, with a home game against Accrington to negotiate on Boxing Day.

Chester’s away record is among the worst in League Two, with just nine goals scored and 24 conceded on the road.

With just 23 league goals in total, Wright has admitted he will be on the lookout for a new striker in January.

League meetings between these teams are evenly balanced, with four wins apiece and four draws, the last one being a goalless encounter that saw Chester consign Mansfield to the Blue Square Premier last May.
