FORMER Silkmen favourite George Abbey has finally landed a short-term deal with a professional club after leaving Moss Rose in the summer.

The 26-year-old Nigerian international was touted for a big move to the Championship when he announced his decision to leave Macc Town at the end of last season - but had struggled to find a deal until Port Vale stepped in last week.

Abbey has signed for Vale on non-contract terms, and made a substitute appearance in the sideés 3-1 victory against Oldham Athletic last week.

Abbey said: "Since I left Macclesfield in the summer it has been very frustrating for me, but Martin Foyle has given me a chance to show that I can do and I am looking forward to the challenge."

The Nigerian had formerly trained with Everton and Gillingham whilst searching for a permanent deal and appeared for his country in the African Nations Cup last year.

l Another former Silkmen star on the move this week has been Spanish midfielder Pedro Matias - who quit his short term contract at Kidderminster Harriers to return to Spain.

Matias was linked with a return to Moss Rose earlier in the season after he appeared at a game in October, but has struggled to adapt to life at the struggling Harriers.
