MACC Town midfielder Terry Dunfield has signed an 18-month contract extension aimed at keeping him at the Moss Rose until the end of the 2008/09 season.

Dunfield, aged 25, joined the Silkmen in the summer on an initial short term deal which was due to run out in January.

However, following a string of impressive performances the Canadian born number 25 has been rewarded with a new deal.

"I knew when we signed Terry that we had got a top quality player," said boss Ian Brightwell.

"He has done more than enough in the last few months to earn himself a new deal and lay to rest any concerns over his ability to return from such a serious injury.

"He has grasped the opportunity with both hands, repaying us in the best possible way, and I am delighted for him. He is going to be a key player for the Silkmen over the next two seasons."

Meanwhile, Silkmen striker Martin Gritton has been reflecting on his side’s miserable FA Cup defeat at Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday.

Gritton scored his seventh goal of the season at Nene Park, but it turned out to be no more than a consolation effort as Brightwell’s side were already 3-0 down at that stage.

Gritton said: "It’s hard to explain why we were so below par on Saturday.

"After the disappointing result at Mansfield we felt we had a second chance against Brentford, one we were grateful to take with a hard working display.

"But you have to earn the right to play and against Rushden we didn’t. We failed to impose any presence on the game and didn’t hurt them at all.

"It’s fair to say the gaffer wasn’t happy, that’s putting it mildly.

"And as players we could have no argument about the points he raised and the result of the game.

"We gifted another early goal and then switched off moments before half-time, leaving their player unmarked to head home.

"That was a big body blow, but at half time we still felt we were still in with the shout. But that all ended when we conceded the third.

"We did have a few chances and I thought Simon Wiles did well when he came on, delivering the cross for my goal. But it wasn’t to be."
