FLEET-FOOTED Macclesfield star Danielle Wallis helped to give England the bragging rights in the recent Home Countries match-up.

The cream of young cross-country runners from around Great Britain gathered for a competition pitting England against their Scottish, Welsh and Irish counterparts.

Among them was 14-year-old Wallis, a member of Macclesfield Harriers, earned her England place with a fine outing in the English Schools’ Athletics Association (ESAA) championships in Leicester.

And in the Home Countries International event, held in Bangor, she came home in eighth place in the 32-strong field, helping England’s junior women to victory in the team stakes.

The Fallibroome High School student and her English team-mates all finished in the top 15 places to ensure victory.

Her mother Sarah said: "She went out there and did her best and she ran better than we expected, against the best runners from all over the place. We’re very proud of her."

Sarah also thanked Fallibroome High School and the Schools’ International Athletics Board for their help with Danielle’s expenses that enabled her to compete.
