Wilmslow Wayfarers defeated Norbury in a tight affair last weekend.

After opting to bat first, Wayfarers started well with Joey Unsworth scoring 52 off just 35 balls.

He was ably supported by Ken Barlow (31), Luke Unsworth (48 not out), Mohammed Yousuf (18) and Colin Henshall (14), innings that enabled Wayfarers to declare on 209-8.

Norbury’s reply didn’t start well as two early wickets saw them reduced to 12-2.

However, Simon Lomas (64) scored the first half-century against Wayfarers in the league this year as the home side fought back. Nevertheless, Wayfarers took wickets at crucial times to see them edge the home side in the final over to take 25 points.

For Wayfarers, Luke Unsworth took 5-94, with Ishi Chunara (1-36) and Joey Unsworth (3-54) also bowling well in tricky conditions to ensure Wayfarers stay in second place.

Wayfarers’ second XI saw their game abandoned as they took on Stalybridge St Paul’s.

Batting first, Wayfarers scored 226-3 thanks largely to Bob Branagan’s superb unbeaten 118. Saeed Bhamjee (36) and Richard Caulfield (41) also contributed to the big total.

However, a heavy downpour saw the game abandoned as the away side reached 55-2 with Saeed Bhamjee and Dan Wright taking a wicket apiece.
