Wilmslow Wayfarers 1st XI had a successful weekend, winning their league game and advancing to the semi-finals of the league cup.

On Saturday, they hosted Hartford in a reduced overs contest. Bowling first, they restricted the visitors to 93-7 off their allotted 38 overs. For Wayfarers, Martyn Baldwin took a superb 3-35, ably assisted by swinger Ant Mape (1-36), Joey Unsworth (2-14) and Neil Shirley (1-6).

The Wayfarers response started well thanks to Martin Wright (26) and Robert Kenneth Seal who scored a fantastic unbeaten 50, hitting a big six off the last ball to win the match.

Wayfarers surpassed the total, losing just three wickets and finishing 96-3.

In the cup, Wayfarers travelled to Appleton, in the league above them. A fantastic effort by the bowlers saw Wayfarers reduce the home side to 136-6 from their 40 overs.

Martyn Baldwin went for just eight runs off his eight overs, with Khatteer Zeb also bowling economically. Thomas Usain Matthews collected a career best 4-34.

Wayfarers replied well with Joey Unsworth scoring a belligerent 70. Zeb (36 no) hit a big six to win. Wayfarers host Stockport Trinity in the semi-final.
