Tytherington outgunned

17/ 9/2008

NORTHERN champions Tytherington finally met their match in southern champions Brighton & Hove in this year’s ECB Women’s Premier League Final.

A team containing six internationals inflicted the Cheshire side’s first defeat in 10 matches, as Tytherington finished 199 adrift of Brighton’s mammoth 292-5.

Unfortunately the occasion proved to be the day that a number of Tytherington’s best fielders contrived to spurn an unusual number of chances.

Sarah Taylor in particular had several lives in her innings of 68, Laura Marsh then made 99, and Holly Colvin (31 not out) and Katherine Brunt (23 not out) ensured 94 were added in the last 11 overs.

Natalie Heap and Katie Paterson were the pick of the Tytherington bowlers.

Any hopes of a miracle were swiftly ended with a series of early wickets. By the time Lorna Thomas and Lauren Griffiths made the best stand of the innings, the result was no longer in doubt.

The final wickets fell quickly as Marsh completed her superb match with figures of four for 12.

Despite the margin of defeat, Tytherington left with heads held high.

For them their achievement this season was being the North’s leading side, despite the loss of two key players.
