Unbeaten Tytherington take first-ever Premier title

THE Tytherington Club team has won the ECB Women’s Premier League North for the first time ever.

Tytherington moved into pole position to win the title after second-placed Ransome and Marles lost to Meir Heath.

Last Sunday both Tythy’s trip to City of Leeds and Ransome’s game against Derby were abandoned, giving the Cheshire side the honour of being the North’s top women’s club side.

With Tytherington having been unbeaten all season compared to Ransome’s two defeats, few would argue that they deserved the title, though they would have preferred to clinch the crown with a final-day victory, but the side can still look back with pride on their efforts.

Players such as Dawn Prestidge and Lorna Thomas have had a superb season, but every member of the squad has made a significant contribution at some stage.

The side now ceases to play under The Tytherington Club banner and moves to Warrington next season.

With the team having fielded sometimes as many as seven teenagers in games this season, there is much more to come from these players.

Next stop for them is the mouthwatering prospect of Sunday’s play-off against Premier League South winners Brighton & Hove at Mansfield, in what will be the biggest game of their careers for most of the young squad.

Brighton can call upon a host of England internationals, so this game will be a huge challenge. But whatever the result Tytherington will look back with pride on their successes this year.
