Prestbury's slim hopes end

Prestbury 136-7, Barrow 137-3 (Barrow won by seven wickets) - PRESTBURY had to beat Barrow to keep alive their promotion ambitions.

But a seven-wicket defeat ended their hopes of reaching Division One.

Prestbury had no hesitation in electing to bat first but Barrow had the perfect start, removing Constable in the second over. The pressure built as wickets continued to tumble and, after 15 overs Prestbury had limped to 34-3.

Urendran and Davies looked to accelerate but just as it seemed they were beginning to frustrate the visitors, Urendran was run out for 29.

Andy Wright looked to inject some life but after hitting two consecutive sixes he was caught on the boundary for 21.

At 89-6 Davies and Hudson put on a partnership of 41 as Prestbury finished on 136-7 off their 45 overs.

Prestbury needed early wickets and when Gray bowled Noble for 10 it looked like a win was possible.

However, luck appeared to desert the home side as Russell and Barclay scored quickly to move the score to 73.

A change of bowling saw Murray bowl Barclay for 21 but Barrow were in control.

Russell passed 50 and although Dwyer (32) was bowled by Gray they reached their target with 10 overs to spare.
