Seven-wicket win for impressive Prestbury

Alderley Park 124ao, Prestbury 128-3 (Prestbury won by seven wickets) - ON AN overcast afternoon Prestbury elected to bowl first on a green looking wicket.

The pitch assisted the Prestbury opening bowlers and it wasn't long before Urendran made the early breakthrough.

The Alderley Park batsmen tried to take the attack to the visitors and just when it seemed they had gained the advantage Gray picked up two wickets in quick succession, both superbly caught by Nichols at second slip.

Urendran kept the pressure up as Park lost a further two wickets, leaving them on 55-5.

Having had an early let-off Burnell and Berry set about rebuilding the Alderley Park innings and, on 109, Richard Nichols finally got the breakthrough, clean bowling Burnell for 32. Nichols picked up three more as Alderley Park were eventually all out for 124.

Richard Nichols was the pick of the bowlers with four for 35, supported by Urendran (three for 58) and Gray (three for 21).

Montgomery and Hope then sharing an opening stand of 50 against some good bowling.

A change of bowling brought instant reward for the home side as Hope chipped a ball back to the bowler and fell for 16. Urendran soon followed, leaving the visitors on 61-2. But Montgomery (39) and Mason (36no) batted with patience and authority. With the score on 94 Montgomery finally fell for a hard fought 39 but Mason and Constable saw the visitors home.

PRESTBURY second XI moved into second place with a closely fought win at Trafford Metrovics.
