Agony for Kerridge

2/ 7/2008

Audlem 213-4, Kerridge 211ao (Audlem win by two runs) - KERRIDGE recorded yet another 200-plus innings this season but just fell short of the 214 needed to win against Audlem.

Audlem won the toss and elected to bat first, on a pitch that always promised runs. With a strong start, and unable to dislodge the openers, the Kerridge attack opted to knock Audlem’s batsmen out of the game.

First Gareth Edwards and later Matt Waite hit Audlem skipper Shenton on the same finger but, despite leaving the field twice for the injury, he still recorded 52 before finally retiring hurt.

The pick of the Kerridge bowlers was Ainsworth, who picked up two wickets.

The Kerridge innings opened well, with Nathan Taylor for the second week running falling four short of his half-century.

Will McGinnis held the innings together in the middle order, knocking a well crafted 32, and man-of-the-match Tony Searle tried to steer Kerridge home with a powerful 33 not out.

Ultimately Kerridge fell an agonising three runs short of the target, and conceded the loss with a last-ball run-out to hand Audlem all 25 points.

Kerridge travel to Eastham and Bromborough next Saturday.

THE second XI endured a home defeat to Port Sunlight under the leadership of vice-captain Alex Grimes. Posting a low total of 60, with Pete Roddis top scoring on 25, the Clarke Lane side were always going to struggle to defend on a wicket that has seen numerous 400-run games this season. Seb Searle gave the visitors a scare, taking three for 19 as Port Sunlight ultimately made the target of 61 with only five wickets down.
