Bolly's despair goes on

11/ 6/2008

Bollington 105ao, Timperley 106-5 (Timperley won by five wickets) - BOLLINGTON'S poor form continued at the weekend with another disappointing batting performance and demoralising defeat.

With only two batsmen reaching double figures, a challenging total was unlikely to be set, but there was a bright spark in Callum Rowe’s innings, the talented teenager equalling the teams’ highest individual league score this season, and providing half of the team’s total score, with a fine 53. However, only Mo Ali (23) provided any support and the tally closed at 105 all out.

To defend this amount required early wickets, and Ali duly snapped up three in his first four overs before pulling up injured.

Against the weakened attack, Timperley batsman Mark Leathley made the most of a controversial lifeline, given not out after having scored just 10, to guide his side past their target with an unbeaten 65.

For Bolly, the arrival of Faisal Hussain from Flixton cannot come soon enough.

The second team enjoyed a better outing, turning the form book on its head against league leaders Sale.

Despite losing early wickets against a team with a 100 per cent record, the innings regained composure and runs from Iain Madden (39) and Andy Pearce (40) propelled the total to a respectable 173-7.

The Bolly bowling attack put in a stunning display and set about their hosts’ line-up with regular wickets.

The impressive Toby Ward led from the front, bowling unchanged throughout the innings and taking seven wickets. Excellent work in the field, particularly four catches from Tom Binder behind the stumps, meant that Sale were routed for just 96.

On Sunday the third team won again, away at Nantwich. The picks of the day were again the younger players in the team - David Paterson scored a fine 61, and Stuart Plant completed the win with another impressive five-wicket haul.
