Bowdon ensured Poynton’s relegation with a four-wicket win at South Downs Road. Batting first after winning the toss, Poynton reached 179-9 at their declaration.

Paul Gould top-scored with 56, while Dominic Ball took 4-66 for Bowdon.

Carl Hey, 64 and Lancashire’s Mark Chilton, 44 top-scored in Bowdon’s comfortable reply.

The defeat meant that Poynton were unable to close the gap on nearest rivals Heaton Mersey, who collected five points from their defeat to Bramhall.

Relegation means that the London Road club will compete in Division Two next year, but they’ll hope for an immediate return in 2012.
