After the previous week’s heavy defeat at Congleton, Poynton dominated their clash with Irby, sending their opponents back to the Wirral with only a single bonus point to show for their efforts.

After a bad start at 38-5, Irby recovered to 130, led by 44 from the experienced Mike Newman.

Danny Williams continued his consistent wicket-taking run with 3-38, while there were two scalps apiece for Damian Stringer, Rick Clark and Tom Hamnett.

But any thoughts that Irby’s lower-order revival had given themselves something to bowl at did not last long.

After the first five overs had been seen off, this was plain sailing for Poynton, with much of the work done in an opening stand of 96 between James Longhorn (41) and Paul Gould, who made 38.
