Poynton were frustrated in a draw with Weaverham but took 14 points from their first home match of the year.

Danny Williams was the star man at London Road, making 88 with the bat as they reached 224-5. Opener Paul Gould capitalised on a dropped catch in the first over to pile on 55.

Damien Stringer contributed 44 as Weaverham’s bowlers toiled, Stuart Hayes finishing with 2-51 and Wilden Cornwall 2-57.

As Weaverham got their run chase going Williams, son of Poynton captain Jimmy, then had Cornwall superbly caught at point by the diving Hopkins.

Williams also accounted for Ian Eaton, but not before he’d made a classy 91. Weaverham continued to bat positively but the draw became their only option. Williams finished with 3-56 and Stringer 4-43.
