Title-chasing Widnes made short work of Poynton in Saturday’s match at Beaconsfield Road, where the hosts enjoyed a six-wicket win.

Widnes dismissed their off-colour visitors for 149, despite an impressive 52 from Poynton’s number three Josh Hampson.

Although Poynton had reached 111-3, Hampson’s departure – the fourth wicket to fall – heralded a startling collapse.

Widnes bowler Danny Moore took 6-48 as the last seven Poynton batsmen were dismissed for single-figure scores and they closed their innings on 149. Sean Moore took two wickets for Widnes while Paul Gould (26) and Rhys Burke (25) were the only other batsmen to make any noteworthy scores.

Indian Narender Negri top-scored with an unbeaten 72 as Widnes replied with 152-4, Richie Clark taking 2-52.

POYNTON are to have their ground inspected by league officials headed by Ground chairman John Bygate after reports of poor conditions in the first month of the season.
