Wilmslow Wayfarers completed a comfortable 70-run victory over Didsbury last weekend at Oakwood Farm.

After being inserted, Wayfarers were soon on the front foot with Joey Unsworth and Ken Barlow (25) giving them a solid start.

At 84-3, Wayfarers had a good base from which to explode as Unsworth smashed 95 off just 64 balls and Luke Unsworth an unbeaten 56 off 58 balls.

This enabled Wayfarers to declare on 210-5 off 30 overs.

Quick wickets from the swinging Ant Mape (3-37) saw Didsbury slide to 4-3, but they fought back in the form of Young (66) to put pressure on the home side.

But Mike Smith blasted through the visitors’ middle and lower order as he claimed a fine 5-24 as Didsbury were all out for 140.

In the Cheshire Shield, Wayfarers were on the road as they took on Oulton Park, a team a whole eight divisions above them.

Nevertheless, they had a degree of early success bowling first, and had the home side on the ropes at 90-3 until Roberts batted through for a classy unbeaten 100.

For Wayfarers, Smith with 2-42 was the pick of the bowlers, backed up by Luke Unsworth (1-38) and Martyn Baldwin (1-52).

In response Wayfarers scored freely with Joey Unsworth (47) and Martin Wright (36) putting Park under pressure at 90-2.

Despite losing a few wickets, Thomas Matthews (33) and Yousuf Bhamjee (26) also batted well.

But in the end, Wayfarers fell 72 runs short of the hosts, bowled out for 212.

However, it was a fantastic achievement by the side to get to the quarter-finals and put up a competitive effort against the Cheshire Division One side.
