ALTHOUGH there was a disappointing display by Wilmslow Wayfarers’ first team at Disley, the second team had a glorious weekend, thanks to Martin Hoban.

The second XI won two matches easily with Hoban reaching 70 on both days.

At Disley the home side batted first and made 180-4. In a jaded Wayfarers reply only Yousaf Bhamjee (30) showed any confidence and, despite the efforts of Andy Bruce and skipper Martin Baldwin, Wayfarers slipped to a dismal 79 all out.

At Oakwood Farm the second team batted first against Appleton fourths.

After slumping to 29-3, a stand of 106 between Hoban (78) and Martin Wright (47) rescued the game before Hoban and Vish Puri’s 73-run partnership enabled Wayfarers to declare on 230-5.

In the Appleton reply Jorge Williams’ 4-20, and Tom Matthews’ 4-47 saw Wayfarers come out easy winners as the visitors ended on 130.

The seconds then faced Capenhurst in the Cheshire Alliance Cup.

Hoban top-scored with an impressive 71 in Wayfarers’ massive 245-8 total.

In reply, Capenhurst collapsed as Anthony Mape (4-29) and Williams (3-26) ripped through them for as they closed on 129.
