Macclesfield entertained Chester Boughton Hall on Saturday still looking for that elusive first win of the season

The day started well with captain Morrison successfully tossing and upon doing so, he had no hesitation in opting to bat.

Morrison and Rob Keen opened up and started solidly, playing strokes around the wicket before Keen was trapped leg before by leg spinner Jack Williams with the score on 55.

Cheshire star Khalid Sawas joined Morrison at the crease and the pair added 100 for the second wicket.

Sawas dug in against Lancashire all-rounder Jordan Clark while Morrison continued his return to form, playing with great style and panache.

Morrison was finally undone by the spin of Derbyshire Academy’s Harry Killoran for a well crafted 78. Nick Ross joined Sawas in the middle and both played attacking shots to move the score to 190 before Sawas was unluckily adjudged LBW for a determined 60.

The in-form Rob Porter came into the fray and he and Ross continued to accumulate before Ross departed for a steady 24.

Porter then went through the gears, penetrating the field and punishing the bad ball in typical fashion before falling for 53.

Useful late runs from Jack Ward and Craig Melrose saw Macclesfield close on 276-6 from 55 overs.

After tea, Ian Tait and Craig Melrose went hard at the Chester opening pair of Tom Simmons and Warren Goodwin with the former falling to a sharp catch from Keen at slip off the bowling of Melrose. When Guy Dunbavind was double teamed by the Melrose brothers, bowled Craig caught Jim, Chester were looking shaky on 33-2.

Cheshire and Chester opener Goodwin continued to show his class; however, when he fell leg before to Tait for 32 to leave Chester 47-3, Macclesfield were in the ascendency.

Stephen Ogilby was joined by Lancashire star Clark and took the attack to Macclesfield’s bowlers before Ogilby was done for pace by the bowling of Morrison for 72. Clark, now accompanied by Cheshire batsman Lee Dixon, continued to dominate the bowling and edge towards the target.

Dixon also hit cleanly and despite surviving some early scares began to score quickly. Clark was eventually removed by the bowling of Ward and an excellent catch from Tait. With the game in the balance Dixon, now joined by his brother Ross, hit some lusty blows to see Chester home.
