Macclesfield won a rain-shortened game at Nantwich to move up the Cheshire County Premier League table.

In doing so, the season’s surprise package, Macclesfield, moved up into a creditable fourth spot.

Macclesfield mustered only 151 from 54 overs, Khalid Sawas top-scoring with 32, while Ray Doyle took 6-60 and Alex Matthews 3-36, while wicket-keeper Jonny Kettle claimed four catches.

A heavy shower lopped 17 overs off Nantwich’s reply and they got bogged down when Ian Tait dismissed the prolific Glen Batticciotto for a single.

Apart from Jonny Kettle’s 33 the Dabbers’ usually strong batting collapsed to 131 all out with two overs left, Ian Tait finishing with 4-42 to clinch a fine victory.

The league Fair Play table produced from umpires’ weekly reports by co ordinator John Lofthouse up to the season’s half-way mark shows Macclesfield leading with an average of eight marks out of a maximum 10.

They are closely followed by Tattenhall (7.9) and Christleton and Neston (both 7.8). There are three clubs with figures of less than seven, which is the officially accepted minimum.

In Division One, Marple won by 60 runs at Poynton, meanwhile and now top the table by 26 points with few signs of slipping. Andrew Hall (51) top-scored in Marple’s 168 while Rhys Burke took 4-24. Poynton were then dismissed for 108.

Tony Berzins made 44 while Andy Greasley took 4-40 and Dominic Michael 3-49. Jo Cash who chipped in with 2-0 from the last four balls.

Bollington have found a rich vein of form with three wins in a week. They first dispatched rivals Macclesfield on Thursday by 28 runs in the quarter-finals of the Twenty20 plate. Half centuries by Tom Gower and Tom Groth and a late cameo of 24 not out from Matt Dawson saw Bolly reach 167.

Macclesfield never really threatened the total as the Bolly spinners Calum Rowe, Aldo Palazzo and Stuart Plant all bowled well to give Bolly local bragging rights.

On Sunday, Bollington made the long trip to the Wirral to take on Irby. Bowling first, Bolly restricted their hosts to 175 which was below par on a good batting track.

The Bolly bowling quartet of Plant (3-48), Mo Jahangir (3-56), Mo Ali (2-58) and Palazzo (1-8) all bowled good spells.

In reply Calum Rowe and Ged McKernan put on 62 for the first wicket until McKernan went for 13. Rowe was in superb form as he and number three Tom Gower in great form himself put on a century stand and both passed the 50 mark. Gower went with just 11 required for a destructive 68 from just 59 balls.

It was left to Rowe 84 not out and Tom Groth eight not out to take Bolly home and bag a full 25 points.

The final leg of a busy week saw Bolly head to Cheadle in the Cheshire Shield quarter-finals.

Batting first Bolly scored a mammoth 296-6 in 45 overs thanks to half centuries by Rowe, Gower, Groth and Tom Barrass. In reply the hosts were dismissed for 142 Jahangir (4-38), Tom Horsfield (3-45), Plant (2-8) and Dawson (1-12).
