Poynton maintained their climb up Division One with a five-wicket win over Irby. Poynton won the toss and decided to chase, on what was a good pitch but Irby began solidly, reaching 80-2.

Then Rick Clark began to hit his stride, his consistent off-spin earning him 4-78 off 19 overs.

Joe Hopkins, making his debut, bowled with pace and accuracy to bowl seven overs and finish with 1-23 at the death.

Irby totalled 205, a decent total but under par on a quick scoring ground.

Poynton set about their task in quick fashion.

Reaching 40 without loss in the first seven overs, having lost overseas player Rhys Burke and Paul Gould, Poynton consolidated under the consistent Josh Hampson.

The youngster once again showed his cool temperment, seeing his side home with 61 not out, ably supported by Rick Clark, who hit a blistering 48, and Joe Hopkins with a fluent 29 not out.

After four straight wins, Poynton now entertain three of the top four sides over the next three weeks.

The London Road club’s upsurge in form should set up some cracking games in the next few weeks.
