WILMSLOW Wayfarers suffered a defeat at the weekend as Chelford batsman Srivastava’s unbeaten 202 saw them to victory.

It was only the good work by the groundsman that enabled the match to take place after a very wet Friday night.

However, Wayfarers were disappointed to lose against a one-man Chelford team as Srivastava dominated the day with his magnificent double century after Chelford were put into bat at Oakwood Farm in the Cheshire Alliance League game on Saturday.

The visitors had been in trouble, losing three batsmen with only 15 on the board, as Andy Bruce took a wicket with his first ball and finished with 3-41.

Chelford struggled on to 69-5 but improved to reach 164-6.

Only Prentice (23) managed to stay around but with Srivastava taking most of the strike Chelford reached 248-8.

Wayfarers openers Bob Branagan (7) and Hassan Akhtar (15) started confidently enough but their reply was pedestrian compared with the previous innings.

Tom Atherton (30), James Bennett (20) and Yousaf Bhamjee (19), and 18-year-old Martin Wright (14) all did their bit with the bat as the conditions improved, but Wayfarers could only take eight points from the game, closing on 152.
