IT'S going to be tight in the Premier League of this week's results are anything to go by as no side maintained a 100 per cent record.

Last seasons champions, Bollington Athletic made a nervous start losing 4-1 away to the Bruce whilst The Royal Oak beat Poynton Vernon 3-2. Phoenix FC, making their league bow, beat the Boar Hound 3-0.

In the First Division, however, three teams are on maximum points with Robin Hood topping the table on goal difference after beating Mary Dendy 5-2 at Congleton Road and Stockport AFC (formerly known as Wilmslow Athletic) lying second after securing victory with a 4-1 demolition of Nelson FC.

Juno are third after defeating Offerton Villa 2-1.

ECL Premier League

Phoenix 3
Boar Hound 0

PHEONIX opened their account with a win but they were made to work hard by Boar Hound - who must be wondering what might have been had they not missed a penalty early in the second half when trailing 1-0.

Phoenix went on to score twice more with goals from Alan Riley (2) and Mike Murphy.

Poynton Vernon 2
Royal Oak 3

NOT without controversy, this match saw Vernon take the lead through a Wayne Lauder strike on 10 minutes only to be pegged back from the penalty spot minutes later by Tim Hamand.

Despite retaking the lead through Colin Speed Vernon never really settled and Oak once again levelled the scores at 2-2 before half time, grabbing all three points with a late second half winner. Oak's goals were scored by James Dumbleton and David Lovett.

The Bruce 4
Bollington Athletic 1

TWO goals from Shaun Allen and efforts from Liam Hadfield and Mark Hillyer saw the Bruce surprise last season's champions Bolly at Congleton Road.

All this having trailed to a Shaun Sutton goal at half time.

Could this be deja vu for Bolly? Last season they lost 4-1 in the opening game of the season and went on to clinch the Championship!

First Division

Club AZ 2
Poynton 2

A superb scissor-kick from 20 yards by AZ's Will Herbert hailed by Dave Williams as 'one of the best goals I've ever seen' grabbed Zeneca a share of the points in an entertaining draw at Alderley Park.

Kevin Mallon had equalised early in the second half for AZ whilst Poynton's goals came from Ewan MacKinnon and Adam Rimmer.

Offerton Villa 1
Juno 2

IN a classic game of two halves, Offerton went in at the interval leading from a Michael Craven goal having had much the better of the play.

Juno came back with two second half goals from Mike McKinney and Kieran Murray to take the points

Robin Hood 5
Mary Dendy 2

ROBIN'S midfield maestro Jamie Collins added two more goals to his hat-trick last week to shoot The Robin to the top of the First Division and keep himself at the top of the goalscoring tree.

Robin's other goals came from Gaz Joynes, John Mercer and Mark Owens. Dendy goals game from Tony White and Paul Cronshaw.

Stockport AFC 4
Nelson FC 1

A comfortable win for Stockport at Woodford Rec with goals from Mark Jones 2, Carl Balfe and Tom Tweedie. Phil Stokes got a consolation for Nelson.
