MACCLESFIELD Boys’ Boxing Club star Peter Bebbington’s excellent season continued with a fine victory at an international event in Preston.
Bebbington represented the East Lancs, Cumbria and Isle of Man squad in a three-round contest against Northern Ireland’s Kevin Shearer.
In front of a sell-out crowd, the pair felt each other out in an even first round before Bebbington started to take the upper hand.
His three and four-punch combinations started to take their toll on the fighter from Holy Trinity and, when the MBBC boxer came forward to work his opponent’s body, he gave himself the opportunity to throw straight right counters off the back foot, which landed with precise accuracy.
It was no surprise when the decision went to Bebbington, who has improved with each fight this season.
Coach Jez Hough said: "Let’s hope this opens the doors for more opportunities for the hard working Macclesfield boxers to represent the division in the future contests."
