MACCLESFIELD Boys Boxing Club stepped back into the ring for a trio of festive season fights.

The Macc lads travelled to Tom Lowe ABC’s first show of the season, and Kieran Davies and Joe Collins stepped between the ropes to take on hometown fighters.

Collins, who had been itching for a good bout, faced the experienced Paul McIntyre, who was strong coming forward. Although not his best performance, Collins did enough with his workrate and showed that he is capable of performing at a higher level.

In only his second fight, Davies faced Curtis Price, a good prospect in his first bout. As Davies had only one match under his belt, both started cautiously.

Despite the decision going against him, this was a good workout and a decent outing for the Macc youngster.

Liam Hanrahan also had work to do over the Christmas season, facing Golden Ring fighter John Fernandez in Bethnal Green in an ABA Novice championship match.

The heavier Fernandez was controlled but Hanrahan may have won the first and second rounds through sheer aggression. By the end of the bout, the Macclesfield corner thought their man had done enough but Fernandez was awarded the decision.

The southern counties man was quick to praise his opponent and said he was the best fighter he had faced throughout the competition.

The club’s coaches wish to thank all their supporters, especially Access Travel, who provided transport to the London event.
