This weekend saw a mixture of Inter League Cup ties and league games and despite the weather they produced plenty of goals.

In the Cup two of our local sides, Lindow and Offerton Villa, progressed into the third round, but there were exits for Old Alts Vets and Northwich.

Inter League Cup 2nd Round

Sandbach 3
Old Alts Vets 2

Vets failed to make it into the next round after a gritty display against Sandbach at Newall Avenue. Goals from Ian Hunt and Tony Dawson were not quite enough to force extra time following two strikes from Graham Roberts and a third from Simon McCready.

Winnington Avenue 3
Club AZ 1

Despite hitting his 10th goal of the season Simon Richards' side conceded two second-half goals to Winnington at Jubilee Fields that brought their cup run to an end.

Offerton Villa 4
Winsford IPC 0

A straightforward win for Villa against the team that knocked out Bollington Athletic in the last round. Goals from Graham Spence and Will Byron in the first half were followed by a second from Byron, his 17th of the season, and one from Simon Keightly.

Nelson 0
Lindow 5

The Lindow juggernaut rolls on, this time in the cup and the goals just keep coming. The lads from Upcast Lane seem unstoppable of late, this time against a brave Nelson side at Woodford Rec. Tommy Gill hit a brace and further goals came from Kieran Harris, Andy Corrigan and John Corley.

Combined Division

Mary Dendy 2
Poynton Nomads B 5

Terrible conditions turned the pitch into a quagmire and the game into a farce. Nomads scorers were Mike Jarvis, Danny Dewar, Nathan Craig and Paul Garner with two. Dendy's goals came from Martin Brunker and Mark Bardsley. The real hero of the game, however, was referee Neil Johnson.

Robin Hood 3
Bollington Athletic 7

An entertaining game in atrocious conditions saw 10 goals and some excellent finishing by both sides. Despite taking the lead, The Robin were pegged back following a powerful finish from Martin Quigley and by half time it was 4-1, strikers Dave Clowes and Emlyn Hughes combining nicely to set each other up.

The Robin reduced the arrears to 4-2 after the break but Bolly's Clowes and Hughes capped fine individual performances with another goal a-piece and left-back Danny Quigley grabbed a seventh.

The Robins goals came from Gareth Hughes, Matt McBride and Nick Sherratt.
