1. Bring your dog to heel

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 25 April 2007
I AM currently inundated with calls from dog owners seeking advice. I don't know if it's a result of all the bad publicity and frankly, I don't care. If owners want to learn more about their canine companions it's all right by me.

2. Here comes the sun again

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 25 April 2007
AS I write this week's column we are experiencing the first heat wave of the year. Even on our windswept hillside it's 24 degrees (that's about 76 in old money).

3. Why my mailbag is such good fun

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 18 April 2007
I SPENT much of last weekend reading through my mailbag. It was a lot of fun.

4. Let's celebrate our real heroes

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 25 April 2007
EVERYONE who read the story of Terry Bolter's breathtaking escape from the Gestapo in last week's Express must have been spellbound. Bailing out of a stricken Halifax bomber over enemy occupied Belgium he evaded capture by hiding in cupboards and running over rooftops finally making his way back to England.

5. ‘We should expect some respect for Stephen Oake’

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 11 April 2007
I THINK anyone who knows me would say I'm a pretty positive person but sometimes I despair. Let's be honest, we are not really awash with heroes are we?

6. Everyone loves the sound of my voice

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 18 April 2007
I DON'T know why I never made it big on the radio, seems like everyone loves my voice. Each time I make a phone call it has to be recorded 'for training purposes'. So far I've 'trained' British Telecom, HSBC, National Power, AOL, Prudential Insurance, Tesco Direct, Toyota, HM Customs and Excise and several minor companies (less than 1000 employees) that don't justify a mention.

7. A true American hero

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 11 April 2007
TWO YEARS ago I wrote about a three-legged dog named Scrap who almost drowned from exhaustion swimming across a lake in the USA. After that traumatic event I never saw Scrap again.

8. People don't talk about lambing in Alderley Edge

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 25 April 2007
I ATTENDED a kid's birthday party last Sunday at a famous Alderley eaterie. I don't normally stray that far afield when I'm dining out but the kids chose the venue. It was a bit daunting parking between a Ferrari and a Bentley (I was afraid they might bump my truck).

9. What’s going on with society?

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 11 April 2007
I NIPPED into McDonald's today for a quick coffee. It was lunchtime and the only seat available was at a table occupied by a young teenage couple. They were most polite and happy for me to share.

10. Scourge of graffiti is mainly in Spain

Macclesfield Express, Wednesday 18 April 2007
TRAVELLING through Spain recently I was struck by the amazing architecture in some of their historic towns and cities. I like Spain, it's country of passion, sadly one of those 'passions' is graffiti. There may be a Spanish town somewhere whose buildings have not been defaced by spray paint, if so: I didn't find it.
