THIS is a difficult time for local retailers with the Trafford Centre enticing customers away and Handforth Dean, John Lewis, Tesco, Sainsbury's, etcetera all providing one stop shopping our town centres are in serious decline. Four large retailers, including Next, have recently withdrawn from Wilmslow's Grove Street, now a pale shadow of the bustling shopping centre it once was.

THE PRIME Minister's obvious discomfort at learning that the effect of his 48-hour target set for GPs' appointments led to surgeries forbidding appointments more than two days in advance was an embarrassment. Like many in authority the PM didn't know the difference between 'theory' and 'practice'.
