Wellies have been given a floral makeover for a festival which kicks off this weekend to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo.
The team from the committee for the White Nancy and Waterloo 200 anniversary festival collected 60 pairs of donated boots from the Bollington community and planted them with flowers for a display.
Team members have been standing guard against slugs and snails and watering the plants until they hang along the road in the run-up to the festival.
The festival marks the 200th anniversary of White Nancy and the Battle of Waterloo, which was fought near Waterloo in Belgium when Napoleon’s French army was defeated by the Duke of Wellington. Kerridge landmark White Nancy was later built to commemorate the victory and the festival is inspired by this too.
Deborah Roberts, from the committee, said: “There are a host of exciting events over the festival weekend – something for everyone.”
An exhibition with work inspired by White Nancy, entries from the White Nancy painting competition and a film by James Nichols about the winner Amy Needham has opened at Bollington Arts Centre.
The festival runs from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21. Events include a ceilidh, historical walk, Bollington Brewing open day, supper evening and family picnic.
