A war veteran’s online petition for recognition has reached more than 5,000 signatures – half of his target.
Theo Eaves, 93, flew 35 missions in Wellington bombers during the Second World War from Italian air bases.
In 2013 the Government awarded the Bomber Command Clasp to aircrew involved in raid across Western Europe in recognition of their bravery and service, but the honour did not go to those who covered Italy, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East.
In October after two years of campaigning to the Ministry of Defence by letter Theo, a grandfather of two fron Poynton, took his battle online.

So far he has amassed 5,146 signatures but he need 10,000 to get a formal response from Government and 100,000 to have the issue debated in Parliament.
He is now making one last push before the petition expires in five weeks.
Theo said: “We were acting together in the same war. Just like other aircrew when we flew on missions we never knew if we would return. Half of us didn’t. It’s only fair that we get the same recognition.”
