Kind-hearted volunteers from churches around Macclesfield took time to hand out Easter treats to residents in the town centre.

The group, which are part of the HOPE intiative, generously gave out hot cross buns and chocolates in the Grosvenor Centre.

They were also there to let people know about the work of HOPE, which brings together 39 churches of different denominations in Macclesfield, Bollington and surrounding villages, and about the reason people celebrate the religious Easter holiday.

They could be spotted on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week hosting a stall just outside the centre’s Boots store from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

And pride of place on their stand was a papier-mâché Easter Egg made which depicted the crucifixion of Christ and his empty tomb.

Volunteer John Griffiths said: “People are always appreciative of what we do and have been keen to hear why we are here.

“It is always nice to be out and about in the community and to give something back, and this is just one initiative that the volunteers from HOPE and churches around Macclesfield are involved in throughout the year.”
