A volunteer is set to embark on a 6,000-mile trip across the globe to help international representatives have their say on the future of girlguiding.

Jo Whytock, 34, will lead a team of interpreters at the 35th World Conference in Hong Kong.

The event is organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Jo, who is Tawny Owl for 8th Poynton Brownies, will use her multi-lingual skills to support 600 delegates from 145 countries across the world at the five-day conference. She is part of a team of interpreters from Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, Belgium and Tunisia.

They will help delegates decide the future path of the World Association and ensure its 10 million members continue to develop.

Jo, who owns her own language and translation business, said: “I’m so excited to be travelling to Hong Kong and I’m sure it’s going to be a brilliant experience. More than that though, I’m really glad to be using my professional skills for Girlguiding, an organisation that I love.”

The 8th Poynton Brownies meet at Lostock Hall School on Mallard Crescent every Wednesday from 6.15pm to 7.45pm.
