TWO trees fell into the road bringing down power lines on Sunday after gusts of wind up to 52mph were recorded across Cheshire.

Firefighters were called to the first incident on Bomish Lane in Lower Withington at 4.46pm.

One fire engine attended the scene and the road was closed in both directions by the crew until police attended.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to a report of a tree on power lines on Bomish Lane at 4.46pm.

“There were no injuries or damage to property and the road was opened again at 10.55pm”.

A second incident of a tree lying in the road on power lines in Poynton was reported at 5.39pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said: “Reports were received of a tree which had fallen on to power lines at 5.39pm.

“Police attended the scene on Lostock Road to check for damage.

“The incident was reported to Scottish Power who then attended and removed the tree.

“The tree was not close to houses.

“There were no injuries and no damage was caused”.

“This incident did not result in any road closures.”
