Travellers have camped up outside the Waters Corporation building in Wilmslow.

The caravans drove onto the site via an access road and over a grass verge earlier today.

Staff from the business, on Altrincham Road, have been talking to the travellers and are working with the council and police to have them removed from the private land.

A spokesman said: “Just before midday we had group of travellers come onto the site.

“They are on open land on the site. They came in through the main access road and drove up onto the grass at the front of the building onto the private land.

“We’ve been talking to them and are in discussion with the authorities to decide what happens next.

“We’re still in discussion with the council and police.”

A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s terrible that they have just come and parked on the site. They got onto the site by going the wrong way up over a grass slope.

“They might think it’s parkland but they shouldn’t be there.

“They have come to Wilmslow before and it’s always hard to have them removed."
