A sneaky tortoise has baffled its owner after going missing from a house in Macclesfield.

Gemma Bullivent-Hughes was shocked at how small horsefield tortoise Tienna could have snuck past her and out the front door of their home on Penningtons Lane in Gawsworth, Macclesfield on Saturday evening.

Her son Ethan, eight, received the pet as a present when his sister Sienna, one, was born and named the tortoise to rhyme with her name.

He is distraught at losing his pet and the family has put out an urgent appeal in the neighbourhood to find her.

Mum Gemma said: “She must have walked out of the front door when I got home about 5.20pm on Saturday evening as she was locked in the the hallway with the internal doors closed. I have no idea how she got past me but it’s the only explanation. Once I realised I went straight outside but she was nowhere to be seen.

“She’s only a small tortoise and you wouldn’t think she’d be able to get past me, it’s crazy. She might be hiding under a bush.

“Ethan is so upset and we’re desperate to find her.”
