A teenage girl has been arrested after a man was found injured and unconscious in an underpass.

Emergency services were called to reports of an injured man at the underpass on Sunderland Street in Macclesfield.

The road turns into Waters Green before it gets to the section under the A523 Silk Road.

The 49-year-old man was found unconscious on the floor with injuries on Friday. Police were called at 10.15pm.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault.

A police spokesman said: “The man was found unconscious with injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to Macclesfield Hospital where he received further treatment before being released the next day.

"A 15 -year-old girl arrested on suspicion of assault has been released on bail until May while the investigation continues.”

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said an ambulance attended at 10.06pm after reports of a man with a head injury.

She said: “An off duty police officer found him on the floor. He was conscious and breathing when he was taken to Macclesfield Hospital.”
