Shop fronts have had a makeover in a bid to boost trade for Macclesfield businesses.
Around 35 town centre properties on Chestergate and Market Place have been smartened up with a shop-front makeover by Cheshire East Council. The scheme involved repainting windows, window sills, guttering and in some cases full renders of the front.
Nic Lewis, a director of Estates & Leisure Holdings Limited, which owns several properties on Chestergate, said: “Besides the visual impact of the painting in enhancing the street frontage, the scheme has helped in attracting occupiers to empty properties.”
The work was subject to landlords or tenants carrying out repairs to enable the decorating work to go ahead. Consultants were commissioned to create a design guide and colour scheme to make sure the improvements fitted with the conservation area.
Paul Mills, owner of Elspeth Mills on Chestergate, said: “It really brightens up the street. Landlords and tenants are happy that so much has been achieved.”
A council spokesman said the improvements are part of a £1m programme to revitalise the town centre.
