Confusion reigns in the garage rent hike saga

CONFUSION reigns over whether campaigners and Cheshire Peaks and Plains bosses will ever meet to discuss garage rent hikes for non tenants.

Weston residents formed the Garage Action Group (GAG) in late January to fight the rise from £6.97 to £13.94 a week - a decision CPP say they will stand by.

GAG, supported by Macclesfield MP Sir Nicholas Winterton, County Councillor Ken Edwards and Coun Alift Harewood, have repeatedly called on the trust to meet them.

CPP chiefs missed last Saturday's (March 10) meeting at the Broken Cross Institute, despite being sent two recorded delivery letters - signed for on March 1, because they were "unavailable". After follow-up phone calls, CPP answered on Wednesday, March 7, saying they couldn't make the meeting but could meet at 6pm on Friday, March 9. That was rejected by GAG as too short notice.

Yesterday (Tuesday) CPP offered to meet on Saturday, March 17. It is believed Sir Nicholas will not be able to make that meeting and campaigners said there was not enough warning, just four days, to book the hall.

They want the meeting to be held on March 24.

The protracted negotiations come after CPP chief executive Tim Pinder defended councillors on the trust's board. He said it was grossly unfair to single them out for criticism as at board meetings, they are under "an absolute legal obligation" to support the best interests of the trust.

   Weeks after this increase in rent, CPP had the security post removed from the entance to garages. Thus allow all and sundry to park their vehicles in this area (which all us tennents are paying for) free of charge. No explainantion as to why this post was removed has been offered from CPP, despite numerous telephone calls. We now are paying excessive rent on property we can no longer access.
