Charities urged to bid for cash

LOCAL charities are to benefit from thousands of pounds of cash courtesy of the Silkmen.

For Macclesfield Football Club is set to donate £7,900 to worthy causes throughout the borough. The money, which will divided between three charities comes from the FA Community Shield Fund.

The FA Community Shield is the seasonal opener between the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners.

Every year, the FA board distributes funds raised from the general admission ticket income net of match expenses to clubs, for them to pass on to community-based initiatives and good causes.

Over the past three years Macc Town have ploughed £24,000 into charities in Macclesfield to help the wider community.

Park Lane Special School, the Fermain Club and the talking newspaper have all benefited from generous cash donations. And this year the club is hoping to keep up the good work.

The director of the club, Colin Garlick, said: "It is great news for the community, and it is great that we get the opportunity to help.

"The club are looking to hear from all charities throughout the area that think they can put the money to a good cause."

The charities must meet guidelines such as being registered with the charity commission, having a registered charity number, and that they must serve the community in the local area.

Good examples of charities include local hospices, aIr ambulance services, day care services and education centres.

Mr Garlick said: "We are looking out for new worthy causes, and are likely to split the money into three."
