Brotherly love rules at royal visit to school

9/ 7/2002

KING'S School is spreading some brotherly love during the visit of the Queen and Prince Philip on July 24.

Foundation Headmaster Dr Stephen Coyne has issued over 100 invitations to the school's neighbours at both the Cumberland Street and Fence Avenue sites.

The gesture has been made to ensure that there are genuine representatives of Macclesfield's folk there.

The move has gained 40 acceptances for the mid-week visit - many more unable to attend only because of work commitments.

Neighbour Molly Robinson added: "It is very nice of King's to invite us. I saw the Queen when she was still Princess Elizabeth when I stood in the Market Place, so I am really looking forward to it."

The school were only too happy to help out.

Dr Coyne said: "I felt that it was really important that our neighbours were invited to the royal visit because they are part of the community of King's.

"As a school, we see this sense of community as being very important. We invited all of the neighbours who are immediately adjacent to the school grounds.

"This was over a hundred households in all. Unfortunately, we were only able to assign one ticket per household but in the end we accommodated everybody who wanted to be there.

"I am very pleased about that and I hope that they will have as good a day on 24th July as we will."
