Young mums will benefit from new lottery grant
13/12/2001
A MACCLESFIELD charity has been awarded a lottery cash of over £4,000 to run parent-craft classes for young mums.
Cradle Concern were delighted at the announcement that they were one of four groups in the area to receive a small grant.
Gill Edmunds, from the charity who take in homeless young mums and their children, said: "It is wonderful that we have been given this money because it helps us develop and keep our project going."
They are using the money to provide parent-craft classes not only for the young women staying with them but others who would be more comfortable in the supported environment the staff and volunteers provide.
Gill said: "We hope to provide a course of six classes covering everything to do with pregnancy, childbirth and being a parent.
"A health visitor comes in to run the classes but we always make sure there are two or three members of staff supporting the young women."
The charity, based at Mulberry House, are also using some of the lottery cash to pay for a creche worker.
