Pub makes debut on Big Breakfast

A LOCAL pub had its 15 minutes of fame when it was featured on Channel Four's Big Breakfast.

Landlady of the Prince of Wales pub Catherine Higginbotham travelled to London to join the Channel Four crew on the set of the rowdy early morning show.

She was joined by seven locals from the Roe Street pub, including Paul Carr, who sang in front of millions of viewers.

Catherine, 26, said: "We got there at about 6am, had a quick rehearsal and then we were on.

"The whole thing lasted quarter of an hour but it felt like about a minute!

"I had to bring an example of our food down and one of the girls from the new pop group Allstars had to try it.

"It was one of our megaburgers but they made us call it the megaburger platter because the producer liked the word 'platter'.

"I had to make it the night before and it had been in my bag all night so I'm not sure if she should have been eating it!"

After the show our Macc pub reps were treated to a big breakfast with all the crew in the Channel Four canteen.

"The food was pretty good, actually," said Catherine.

"Live TV was a bit nerve-racking because all the cameras are inches from your face," she went on.

"Everywhere you look you can see yourself staring back - and of course everyone looks heavier on camera!

"I've got a copy of the show on tape but I haven't dared watch it yet.

"It was great fun doing it though - I really enjoyed it."
