26/ 2/2001

A DOCTOR and his IT specialist colleague who gave up full-time jobs to set up their own company have now won a £45,000 Government SMART award to assist them in their latest project.

Dr Michael Hughes, 35, who worked for the Eating Disorder Service at Macclesfield District General Hospital, and Stuart Bennett, 33, a former IT consultant from Congleton run MiArt Technology which provides website medical information.

Michael, who lives on Bond Street with his wife Alison and daughter Anna, said: "Clinical guidelines are intended to alter and focus the working practice of all health workers, doctors, nurses and other professionals allied to medicine.

"The system we are working on will allow local guidelines to be written and updated and be more easily accessed in acute clinical situations.

"It will also save staff costs of managing traditional paper guideline systems, both for authors and administrative staff."

Michael, a former King's pupil, who is also a doctor for Macclesfield Town Football Club, said: "We are seeking more partners to work with us but we are hoping to keep our venture as local as possible."
